The growing response from the construction and property industry to the housing crisis in the UK appears to be modular and offsite construction. This is a big positive for our sector.
The latest deal to be announced, a joint venture alliance between Stanhope and Laing O'Rourke, sees two mainstream developers and contractors investing and committing to targeting opportunities with offsite being the route for delivery from day one.
This is a positive step for our industry. It means offsite will be at the forefront of the design team's mind when developing concepts for these schemes, and shows commitment to the efficient delivery model that could help manage the skills shortage within the sector.
Stanhope chief executive David Camp said: “This alliance between a major private developer like Stanhope and a leading housing association like Network Homes is the only way we are going to solve London’s housing crisis by delivering high-quality new homes cheaply and efficiently outside the conventional structures which have failed.
